The MOT Test

When does a car require an MOT?

The first MOT on a car should take place when the vehicle is 3 years old – please note that this could be different if this has 9 seats or more and/or is a taxi. An MOT tests the important elements of your vehicle to ensure they meet the minimum legal requirements, you should continue to make sure that your car maintains this standard as a minimum at all times. As the registered owner of the vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle is examined every 12 months.

You must get an MOT for your vehicle by:

  • The third anniversary of its registration
  • The anniversary of its last MOT, if it’s over 3 years old

Please note that some vehicles need to be tested from one year old – see DVSA website for full details.

What our customers think

Honest, trustworthy company. They had my car all morning and had plugged it in to their computer diagnostic machine looking into a problem. Emma (receptionist) rang me., said they couldn't fix it so recommended me to a specialist, she had already contacted them and told them to expect me and DIDN'T CHARGE ME A PENNY for their own investigations. I use them often and Would use them every time !

Polite efficient trustworthy service.

Albert Nixon - December 2015

I left my house early in the morning to see I had a very flat, rear passenger side tyre. I googled local tyre companies & HiQ popped up. I called them about 9:30am & by 11am they'd sent a guy out to tske my tyre off, go back to their depot with it, repair it & return to my house. Many companies would have charged me for a new tyre, repaired my punctured one & sold it as a part worn tyre at their garage. Very honest company, you get a lot of crap service these days from companies that know you're not clued up on their particular industry but fair play to HiQ, best service I've had anywhere for a long time. Highly recommended.
